My Best Friend: A Poem

Dear bestie,

There is no one quite like you, a friend so loyal and true.
You are a light that guides me through the darkness that can cloud my view.

Friendship is a precious thing, a bond that we hold dear.
It helps us through the ups and downs and wipes away each tear.

In childhood days we laughed and played and shared our favorite toys.
We ran through fields and climbed tall trees and made such joyful noise.

As we grew up, our lives diverged and we took separate ways.
But still we kept in touch with words and shared our hopes and praise.

Though we may be far apart, the miles cannot divide.
The love and memories that we’ve shared and all the times we’ve cried.

Every memory is close to me and etched on my heart.
And I will always be your shoulder, no matter how far we’re apart.

For true friendship knows no distance, no time or space can part.
It’s like a flame that burns so bright, illuminating our hearts.

I am grateful for every moment we’ve shared.
I’m grateful for every smile, every hug and every single tear that we bared.

We’ve shared so much through all these years, our triumphs and our woes.
Our joys and sorrows, big and small and it’s this that truly shows.

May we always find joy in each other and may our friendship continue to grow.
May our bond remain true and strong through all of life’s highs and lows.

So here’s to you, my bestie, may our friendship never end.
We’ll grow and learn and support each other, my dearest friend.

Love, your bestie.

A Collection of Haiku’s

I’ve collated a small collection of haiku poems that I’ve written over the past year! Haiku isn’t my usual style and it is quite a challenging structure to write but I enjoyed the challenge and the creativity required to write a haiku!

Little Baby

Each day passes fast,
and my child grows too quickly.
Tiny baby, gone

Painting

Creativity
forming a scene of the lake
with soft strokes of paint.

The Lake

Alone in silence
the clear blue lake shines at dawn.
The calm fills my heart.

Mountain Air

Mountain air surrounds.
Beautiful pure and clean air.
Breathe in and breathe out.

My Oasis

Quiet oasis.
My place of refuge and calm.
My mountain, my home.

Rainstorm

Rain drips down my head
as I stare up at the sky.
Oh, how I love rain.

Winter Again: A Poem

The fire roars,
the snow falls.
I’m behind closed doors
and solid walls.

Winter came again,
the best time of year.
I never complain,
I only cheer.

Winter is amazing,
there’s no downside.
Fireplace blazing,
rugged up inside.

Hot cocoa in my mug,
book in my hand.
It feels like a warm hug,
just as planned.

Winter, I adore
each and every year.
Winter is no bore,
it is comforting and dear.

I find comfort in the cold,
away from summer heat.
Winter will never get old,
it is always a treat.

The fire roars,
I’m happy and snug.
I love to be inside,
sitting on my rug.

Winter is comforting,
it feeds my soul.
Winter is supporting,
it makes me feel whole.

The fire roars,
the snow falls.
I feel comfort inside
my hallowed walls.

A New World: A Poem

Emptiness is all that I feel,
silence my only friend.
My bed cold and the world silent,
the day has come to end.

At first, I felt very hopeful,
life would be different.
I thought change was finally here,
dreamy… magnificent.

I never dreamed we would go back,
worse than things were before.
Thought we finally had a voice,
and basic rights galore.

But once the day is at an end,
and all is said and done,
I feel like we have stepped backwards,
and the end has begun.

The fight will never be over
at least that’s how it feels.
There is so much work to be done,
we fight to take the wheel.

I fight for a much better world,
after the big parade.
A world secure for my children,
a world we will have made.

Women’s history is central,
and celebrations, key.
But the fight needs to continue,
of this, I guarantee.

Introverted Comforts: A Poem

The sun has set, night comes again,
moonlight now floods my room.
I’m at peace snuggled in my bed,
cosy in my bedroom.

Candlelight flickers and dances
off the walls beside me.
I wrap the doona around me
slowly sipping my tea.

My window slightly cracked ajar,
cool air brushes my skin.
Cold winter breeze relaxes me,
my happy days begin.

I breathe a sigh of happiness
I’m in my comfort zone.
Silence fills the room around me
I love to be alone.

Days are filled with anxiety
But nights are filled with joy.
Bundled up with my book in bed
Is just what I enjoy.

I love to immerse in my books
absorb stories and tales.
My books comfort me every day
of this, they never fail.

My books open up new-found worlds
New people and places.
I can delve into foreign lands
Right by my bookcases.

I do not have to leave my home
to find my own pleasure
Comfort is found where I am safe
Relaxed at my leisure.

I love my introverted life
of simple joys and highs.
I feel so relaxed and happy
I slowly close my eyes.

My books bring me so much comfort
My dreams bring me delight.
I know the stories are not true
But they often feel right.

Night-time brings me so much comfort
I can forget my plights
I love my introverted life
I love the quiet nights

Quiet introverted comforts
are what I so enjoy.
I spend nights quietly, alone
It brings me so much joy.

Wedding: A Poem

Weddings are always a big deal,
So much music, dancing and love
It almost feels surreal.

There’s always laughter and a good meal,
And love exudes through the air.
Weddings are always a big deal.

I love the way weddings make me feel,
As I remember my own special day,
It almost feels surreal.

Sometimes it doesn’t quite feel real,
To see people so in love.
Weddings are always a big deal.

There is always so much appeal,
In going to a beautiful wedding.
It almost feels surreal.

Weddings can bring families to heal,
And show we can overcome a lot
Weddings are always a big deal
It almost feels surreal.

Dreams: A Poem

In my dreams, I can fly away
across ocean and sea.
In my dreams, I forget the day
I’m allowed to be me.

In my dreams, I dare to cast spells,
and rule over the land.
In my dreams, I collect sea shells,
buried deep in the sand.

In my dreams, there are never fights
only peace, love and joy.
Everything always feels so right,
there’s so much to enjoy.

In my dreams, there are no pains
They release me from my chains.

Baby: A Poem

I never knew this kind of joy
Being a mother is so new
Oh, my sweet little boy.

I love to show you a cute toy
And see your gorgeous smile.
I never knew this kind of joy.

I love the cheeky smile you employ
When you know you’ve been silly
Oh, my sweet little boy.

It’s the simple things I now enjoy
Just a giggle or a smile
I never knew this kind of joy

In my life there is so much joy
I get to spend all day with you
Oh, my sweet little boy.

This kind of love is hard to destroy
You melt my heart every day.
I never knew this kind of joy
Oh, my sweet little boy.

Her King: A Poem

The darkness was everywhere,
Hiding her from view.
No one could see her,
Not that she wanted them too.

She walked the lonely road alone,
Not a soul was around.
Her feet kicked the rubble,
That layered the ground.

The world she once knew,
Now lay at her feet.
Her evil plan,
Was now complete.

But this was not what she wanted,
It was all wrong.
He was meant to be here,
Ruling beside her as King.

Starlight: A Poem

It is very quiet this night
Too quiet for me.
There are no people in sight
No one that I can see.

I usually enjoy the stillness
I find peace in the calm.
But today silence means illness
Disease has come to our farm.

I’m too afraid to leave my room
Afraid of what I’ll find.
In the morning, chaos will resume
But for now, I’m safe inside my mind.

It is very quiet this night
In the glow of the starlight.
