Christmas & New Years: A Poem

Sun beats down on golden sand,
Barbies sizzle, drinks in hand.
Kookaburras laugh from gumtree top,
While children splash and never stop.

Santa swaps his coat for shorts,
Trading sleighs for Aussie sports.
Cool drinks clink and laughter sings,
As cicadas hum their sunny strings.

Wreaths of eucalyptus, bright and green,
Deck the halls in a summer scene.
Surfboards rest by the ocean’s side,
As waves and holiday spirits collide.

Around the table, family cheer,
Sharing stories of the passing year.
In every hug and every song,
The heart of Christmas shines so strong.

So let your summer star shine bright,
On a warm Australian Christmas night.
For joy lives not in snow or sleigh,
But in love and laughter, in our own way.

Sun dips low, the sky aglow,
A golden end to the year we know.
Families gather, hearts entwine,
Sharing laughter, food, and wine.

Barefoot on grass or sand so warm,
We celebrate in summer’s charm.
Children run with sparkling eyes,
Chasing dreams beneath twilight skies.

Barbies smoke, and glasses clink,
We pause to love, reflect, and think.
Stories told of days gone by,
Plans whispered under the evening sky.

As fireworks bloom in bursts of light,
We cheer together through the night.
Hands held tight, we welcome new,
With hope, with joy, with hearts so true.
